Parked couples, beware, the Hookman is prowling. With the first records appearing in the 1950s, the image of an older gentleman in a raincoat, hat, and with a hook for a hand has permeated American folklore for over 70 years now. He preys predominantly on young lovers, targeting their parked cars when they are in the heat of passion.
Eyewitnesses who lived after an encounter with the Hookman detail his cruel, stalking behavior. He often watches couples who are out for a walk together and follows them. For those out on drives, he follows until they park and bides his time before striking. Many sad cases result in one half of the couple being killed by the villainous Hookman, with the other escaping to tell the tale. On one or two occasions, however, the couple has managed to flee, often with damage done to their vehicle and the hook protruding from their car door or roof as evidence of the ordeal.
Quite how the Hookman retrieves his lost hook after incidents like this, we do not know. But there have been enough accounts following these ones to suggest he is either very good at getting lost things back or he has a limitless supply of hooks. Handy, either way.
