By the light of the moon, the Dullahan rides through the Irish countryside. The Dullahan can be a male or female rider but is always seen carrying their own severed head. The head can be found in varying states of decay, from rotten and crumbling to a completely bare skull.
They are sometimes known to be pulling a coach and are often found near cemeteries, particularly if someone truly wicked is buried there (specifically a wicked aristocrat).
The Dullahan takes great joy in its work, smiting the wicked and raiding the countryside. Their severed heads are usually smiling from ear to ear and witnesses bare testament that they carry a whip made of a human spine. Rumor has it that the Dullahan will only speak once on its journey and that is to say the name of its victim. It has also been reported that to look upon the Dullahan causes blindness, so be sure to keep your head bent low, clench your eyelids closed, and do not open them until you can no longer hear the pounding of the horse’s hooves.
