If you’re searching for Baba Yaga, the first thing to find is her hut. Deep in the woods, there stands a hut on chicken legs that is constantly spinning. Though we have no reports on how fast it spins, it is always in motion. The fence around the hut is topped with the skulls of those who have crossed the witch. If you manage to make it inside, you will find Baba Yaga.

The first of many wicked witches in the woods, Baba Yaga is the oldest of her kind. She looks like a stereotypical ancient hag and can be recognized by her unique and somewhat eccentric mode of transportation: riding a mortar and wielding a pestle. What she grinds in that mortar is best left unasked. Baba Yaga can also command a pack of black geese, which she has been known to send out to steal children.

Though often described as cruel and wicked, she has been known to help those she deems worthy of her aid. Baba Yaga is fiercely independent, an unusual trait for women of her era and if she decides you are worthy of her help, consider yourself very lucky indeed. Because if you’re not, she’ll likely kill you or turn you into something horrible.
