Formerly a king and now an Orisha of the Yoruba religion, Shango is a god of fire, thunder, lightning and justice. When king, it was said that Shango had a voice like thunder and after he died, his followers claimed that he ascended on a giant chain to become Orisha.
Shango is considered a great warrior and carries an oshe, a double-headed axe. Many who worship him revere this symbol and it is what his priests carry during worship. He makes for a strong and imposing figure and is often adorned in the color red. Followers often wear beads of red and white as a symbol of respect.
Surprisingly, Shango is not only a master of some of nature’s greatest powers (like thunder and fire) but is also seen as a god of dance. His instrument of choice is the beta drum so if you don’t think you can outfight him (we guarantee that you can’t), you can always try to impress him with some dance moves.
