First spotted by European colonists in Kenya, the Nandi Bear gets its name from the Nandi people who lived in Western Kenya. It has been suggested that initial sightings of the Nandi Bear were simply hyenas or even a baboon. Certainly, this is plausible as Europeans would not have been familiar with these cackling mammals. However, subsequent reports describe a creature which has a sloped back and is covered in reddish fur. The locals tell tales of the creature being prone to scalping people with its long claws.
Details of a 1905 sighting describe the creature moving with a shambling sideways motion. This may lead some to believe the creature to be slow but when paired with the local tales of scalpings, it is essential that you do not allow it to get too close.
