Painted on the doors of houses in Karnataka in India, are words of warning to a frightful creature - “Nale Ba” or “Come Tomorrow.” Sometimes spelled “Naale Baa”, this is an attempt to protect those inside from a witch, who is said to steal people straight from their beds. As far as we know, she does not have a name - hence why we have named this Grimoire entry “Nale Ba” as opposed to “unnamed abducting witch,” which is much less graceful and doesn’t roll off the tongue so easily.
This witch rose to prominence in the 1990s, where she began to steal men from their beds at night. In many cases, she targeted the sole breadwinner of a family, thus putting the entire household in jeopardy and bringing about all manner of bad luck, as well as the grief of a lost loved one. Locals fought against her by painting the words “Nale Ba” on the door and it does seem to have kept her away from those with the protective words.
The witch in question has a unique skill where she can mimic the voice of a loved one. This has tricked many people into opening their doors to her and the second that door is opened, she can strike. Her methods of killing are cruel, ranging from instant heart failure to the rather gruesome act of making someone vomit blood. Here, we recommend taking a tip from the locals of Karnataka - paint the words “Nale Ba” on your door and if you hear a relative or friend begging you to let them in, maybe leave them outside. Just for tonight.
