The brighter counterparts to the dark elves, Dökkálfar, the Ljósálfar (LYOHS-ahl-fahr) are the light elves of Norse stories. They are described as "fairer than the sun to look at" and live in Álfheimr, the land of the elves. It’s suggested that they are the only creatures living in Álfheimr, and no one else dares set foot in this heavenly land. Apparently, they are so fair and beautiful that their hair is often mistaken for strands of pure sunlight, which is quite a boast, even for an elf.
Ljósálfar are fountains of knowledge and are more interested in becoming as wise as possible than anything else. They also seek knowledge of the gods, showing that they are not entirely insular and have some interests beyond their own kind.
While they have a human-like appearance, they are better and more skilled than humans in every way. Their vision and hearing are superior, and they also possess supernatural powers. It is said that there is very little distinction between the appearance of male and female Ljósálfar, so it is guaranteed that every single one of them is more attractive than you will ever be, even on your best day.
