With her crisply pressed nurse's uniform and neatly coiffured hair, La Planchada is a spirit who can be found floating through the halls of Mexican hospitals and emitting a soft glow. She administers aid and support for those in their dying hours and has even been known to save a life or two.

While there are several origin stories for La Planchada, it seems that the most popular one is that she was a nurse who fell in love with an attractive doctor who rejected her affection. Many stories don’t go beyond this or state “died of a broken heart.” This sad ending doesn’t seem to have dulled her love and care for her job though and she still moves through the hospital wards, looking for patients in need.
