In the 1970s, the king of the vampires roamed a cemetery in London and caused a media sensation. The Highgate Vampire, as this elusive figure was dubbed, evaded capture by groups of vampire hunters like no other vampire we’ve ever encountered.

The first recorded incident was in 1968, when a group of teenagers broke into Highgate Cemetery in search of the vampire. They did not find the correct one but rather resorted to strange rituals before eventually exhuming a freshly buried body and plunging an iron stake through its heart. A failed attempt but one which ignited a spark of interest in the existence of the Highgate Vampire. Several eyewitnesses reported a strange gray figure roaming the graveyard at night but no other evidence was gathered.

This all also ignited a rivalry between two supernatural hunters - David Farrant and Sean Manchester - who each claimed they could destroy the creature. It was Manchester who declared the figure to be king of the vampires and their rivalry was the center of a media storm. Between the pair they attempted exorcisms, rituals, hunts and even instigated a riot in March of 1970, when a mob scaled the walls of the cemetery in an attempt to catch the Highgate Vampire.

Needless to say, both men were unsuccessful in their attempts to destroy the vampire and it is still at large today. After so many failed attempts, we do not recommend attempting to capture the Highgate Vampire and we absolutely do not condone driving stakes through corpses you simply suspect of being vampires. Better to leave that to the professional vampire hunters, as opposed to glory chasers and charlatans.
