As the sun reaches its peak, Poludnitsa emerges to cause trouble. This summer spirit appears in fields at noon to harass and bother workers, causing heatstroke, fatigue, and dizziness. However, her mischief can take a darker turn. Some reports claim Poludnitsa quizzes field laborers with taxing questions. If they do not answer promptly or give the wrong answer, she is said to decapitate them with a sickle or shears (They should call it Jeopardy!).
Also known as Lady Midday or the Noonwraith, she is most recognizable for appearing in a cloud of dust, brandishing her weapons of choice a sickle or shears, depending on the region. Often, she looks like a beautiful woman in a white summer dress. She always appears around noon, the hottest part of the day, when many workers are taking a break. Being approached by a Noonwraith is possibly the worst way to have your lunch break interrupted.
Poludnitsa's other antics include stealing children who wander into fields of valuable crops and challenging young women to dance-offs. Known to be an excellent dancer, she will grant a handsome dowry to any girl who out-dances her.
