Alliances:
After a week of strong Greek and North American decks, it’s time to pivot to Rivin and Zerrofel. We’re sure you had fun trying out the new Hordes but let’s see if any of those new cards can work their way into decks for this week’s challenge!
Rivin is another strong Alliance with Slavic cards ramping up and West African providing strength late-game. For Slavic, you’ll want to make use of Leshy if you have him but an incredibly useful card that is easy to achieve is Bauk. As a Rare, Bauk could be a staple in any Rivin deck with +30 Attack/Turn in your next turn. Sometimes, that can be that card that brings you back from the brink. West African staples include Anansi and Shango but don’t sleep on Oshosi, who can give you a little Mana boost if you need it.
With Zerrofel, these decks aren’t necessarily about hitting massive Attack scores but rather aiming to disrupt your opponent. Hauntings comes in strong with cards like El Silbon and The Bell Witch which will terrorize your opponent’s Attack/Turn (a cunning move if they’re playing Lysa Hora, Oshun or Ogun). And if you’d like to be even more devious, playing these cards on the same turn you draw La Llorona can be positively vicious. With Yokai decks, Kitsune is going to be a great card to have this week as it directly benefits from being played opposite a Rivin card. And if you include Shinigami in this deck, it’ll be even better!
Mana Management:
The 20 Mana cap this week is going to be your biggest test. For all of you who have made Fenrir a staple in your decks, it might be worth asking if he’s really worth taking up a slot this week. It’s up to you but that +10 Mana Regeneration won’t really help when you’re getting 20 Mana every turn but cannot exceed that.
Instead, the creatures that affect the Mana cost of cards are going to be your greatest allies this week. Mami Wata will be crucial for West African decks while Madam Koi Koi and Teke Teke are going to be deliciously nasty ones to include in a Hauntings deck.
As always, it’ll be a careful week of deck building, trialing and tweaking until you get the right combination so don’t be disheartened if you’re brand new and it takes you a day or so to adjust to a new league. You’ll get there and each week’s League rewards (no matter what your Rank) are a great way to pick up new packs to strengthen your decks.
And, as always, we cannot wait to see if any North American or Urban Legends cards slip into your decks for some little surprises. Ozark Howler, Bella in the Wych Elm and Hookman (to name but a few) may all be sneaky additions to any deck.
Best of luck and see you on the battlefield!
